Melbourne Fruit & Vegetable Harversting
The City of Melbourne and it's inner suburbs has an abundance of fruit trees and vegetable garden's, in particular we have seen hundreds of Olive trees while commutng around Melbourne. Unfortunately most of this produce goes to waste.
Why are we not harvesting this very valuable resource?
It is possible as shown by Not Far From the Tree. They have picked 20.000lbs of fruit from 228 trees in the Toronot area last year! That is amazing and all done by volunteers. Better still the bounty is divided into 1/3 for the owner, 1/3 to the pickers and 1/3 goes to charity kitchens and food programs.
Thhis concept is a fantastic and great example of how to make good use of our City and it's natural resources.
