Act: Major upgrades to the Kid's Kitchen at The Brahminy facility in NT
change Tomorrow funded a major upgrade to the facilities at The Brahminy Group North Territority facility for troubled youths.
"Brahminy NT works with young people at risk from all walks of life from all over Australia. One of the issues that Brahminy addresses is behavioural problems and we have found that there is a direct link between diet and behaviour. Some of these young people are quite used to consuming large quantities of fast foods and soft drinks as their main diet, before coming to Brahminy.
While with us their diet changes drastically – there are no soft drinks or fast foods available and their diet is made up of wholesome home cooked meals. An average of 50 to 80 meals and snacks are prepared at the facility daily and this will increase with our expansion. This has been done with a stove with 2 burners working and an oven not working at all! And no dishwasher.
Having a new kitchen has enabled us to streamline healthy food preparation in a very meaningful way. We also encourage the young people to prepare food also so that they can take care of themselves and understand the importance of good nutrition when they leave us to go home.
Thanks so much to Change Tomorrow Foundation for their very kind donation and allowing us to be able to take more young people at risk."
